Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Because her father had left, the Ford family was taken care of by her mom, grandmother as well as godparents. As a child, she battled an obsessive-compulsive disorder and suffered anxiety linked to associations with words. Ford became attracted to acting in her teenage years she joined the National Youth Theatre. She got into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. But after just one week she decided it wasn't suitable for her. Ford applied instead for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and was eventually offered the position she wanted on her third try. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford didn't complete her degree until 1993. However, in 1991, Ford had made her first appearance on TV on the show Surgical Spirit. At that moment, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate was a part of such programs on television including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London Burning. Also, she was a regular performer in theatres, before eventually becoming a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate gained recognition as a stand-up comedian and has been added to her repertoire in the year 1996.
